Emotional literacy at work
Every workplace runs on feelings. The literate ones admit it.
Emotional literacy at work is the ability of individuals, leaders and teams to read and respond to emotion in meetings, conflict, feedback and change.
Why it matters
Workplace training has long focused on emotional intelligence — management techniques for composure and influence. In The 10P Emotional Literacy System, those techniques are the second half. Teams also need the first: the ability to read what people actually feel. A manager who can name "my team is anxious about the reorganization" leads differently from one who sees only "resistance."
Common workplace patterns
- Stress spending and overwork as coping mechanisms — see Coping mechanisms.
- Conflict avoidance that turns into resentment.
- Feedback that lands as attack because no one named the feelings involved.
Practices
- Open meetings with a one-word Circle check-in.
- Teach I-statements for feedback.
- Normalize repair after tense moments.
10P works with businesses and schools to train teams in the full system.
