Betrayal

noun

The deep hurt of having your trust broken by someone you relied on.

How it shows up in the body

Shock, nausea, sleeplessness, replaying the past for missed signs.

What it is telling you

A real agreement, spoken or unspoken, was broken. Betrayal asks you to decide what repair would require — and whether it is possible.

The urge — and the choice

To retaliate or to swear off trusting anyone. The choice is to protect yourself and decide slowly.

One thing to try

Separate three questions — What happened? What do I need now to be safe? What would repair look like, if anything?

Practice it: Repair conversation.

Words you can use

What you did broke my trust. I need time, and I need you to understand what it cost.
