Jealousy

noun

The fear of losing someone or something important to another person.

How it shows up in the body

A tight chest, a sick stomach, watching closely, imagining scenarios.

What it is telling you

You value this relationship and feel insecure about your place in it. Jealousy is about fear of loss.

The urge — and the choice

To control, accuse or check up. The choice is to name the fear and the need underneath it.

One thing to try

Finish “I’m afraid of losing…” and “What would help me feel secure is…”. Say the second one out loud.

Practice it: I-statements.

Words you can use

I’m feeling jealous, and I think it’s because I’m scared of losing what we have.
