Regret

noun

Sorrow about a choice you made or did not make, paired with a wish that it had gone differently.

How it shows up in the body

Sighing, replaying, a heavy heart, tension when the subject comes up.

What it is telling you

You care about the outcome, and you have learned something. Regret becomes useful when it turns into a new decision.

The urge — and the choice

To punish yourself on repeat. The choice is to extract the lesson and live it.

One thing to try

Write “What I know now that I didn’t know then is…” and one way you will use it this week.

Practice it: Feelings journal.
