Triumph over trauma: what processing actually means

"Process your trauma" gets said a lot. What does it actually mean?

In the 10P system it means four things, in order. Read it: name what happened and what it left in you. Understand it: see how today's reactions connect to yesterday's wounds. Respond to it: choose constructive coping — a person, a page, a circle, a professional — instead of destructive coping. Repeat: practice the new response until it is the automatic one.

It does not mean forgetting. It does not mean the trauma was acceptable. It means the trauma stops making your decisions for you.

That is what "Triumph Over Trauma" on our mended-heart hoodie means. The heart is not new. It is mended — stitched, visible, and stronger where it was repaired.

If what you are carrying is too heavy to carry alone, reach out to a trauma-informed professional. In a crisis in the U.S., call or text 988.
