Irritation
noun
A low-level, prickly annoyance — anger at a whisper, usually aimed at small, repeated things.
How it shows up in the body
Fidgeting, eye-rolling, a clipped tone, sensitivity to noise and touch.
What it is telling you
Your tank may be low. Irritation often signals hunger, tiredness, or too many small demands piling up.
The urge — and the choice
To snap at whoever is closest. The choice is to check your basics — food, rest, space — before blaming the room.
One thing to try
Run a quick HALT check — am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired? Handle the one that is true.
Practice it: Body scan.
Words you can use
I’m irritable right now and it’s not about you. I need a few minutes.
