Embarrassment
noun
A brief, social sting when you feel exposed or awkward in front of others.
How it shows up in the body
Blushing, nervous laughter, wanting to look away or leave the room.
What it is telling you
You care how you come across. Embarrassment usually passes fast, especially if you can laugh with others about it.
The urge — and the choice
To cover it with anger or a joke at someone else’s expense. The choice is to own the moment lightly.
One thing to try
Say it out loud — “Well, that was embarrassing.” Naming it takes most of the sting out.
Practice it: Name it to tame it.
