Bitterness
noun
Long-term resentment that has hardened into a way of seeing the world — the belief that things will always be unfair to you.
How it shows up in the body
Fatigue, a closed posture, a cynical tone that shows up before you even decide to speak.
What it is telling you
Old grief and anger have not been processed. Bitterness protects you from being hurt again, at the cost of keeping you from being helped.
The urge — and the choice
To expect the worst and push people away first. The choice is to find one place where the story is not completely true.
One thing to try
List one person or moment that broke the pattern — someone who did right by you. Start there.
Practice it: Feelings journal.
