Why we call it literacy
People ask why 10P insists on emotional literacy when everyone else says emotional intelligence. It is not branding. It is sequence.
For years I watched men inside get handed anger-management techniques. Count to ten. Walk away. Breathe. And for years I watched those techniques fail. Not because the men were not trying, but because they were using a tool built for anger on feelings that were not anger. Grief came out as anger. Shame came out as anger. Fear came out as anger. When the only word you have is mad, every tool you pick up is for mad.
You cannot manage what you cannot read.
So in the 10P system, literacy comes first: reading yourself and reading others. Intelligence comes second: choosing the right tool and using it well. Together they are the emotional literacy system. Emotional intelligence is not wrong. It is just the second half.
And the word literacy carries hope. Grown adults learn to read every day. Nobody is too old, too hard or too far gone to learn to read themselves.
